HLS in the Arts FAQs

Q: Who is invited?
A: All HLS students, staff, and faculty are invited. The event is also open to alumni who would like to attend.

Q: May I bring a guest?
A: Yes. Guests are more than welcome at HLS in the Arts. Friday night guests 21 and over will receive a wrist band and two drink tickets. Guests under 21 are welcome and will have a separate wrist band. For Saturday afternoon, you are welcome to bring your family and friends to enjoy the entertainment.

Q: How do I register?
A: Register online. There is no fee to attend, but we are asking guests to pre-register for security and planning purposes.

Q: Is there a charge to attend the festival?
A: There is no charge.

Q: Are there hotels available, and if so, how do I reserve?
A: We have secured a room block at the Charles Hotel. The rate is $339.00 per night, plus taxes and fees. If you wish to reserve a room at the Charles Hotel, please do so by August 18, 2017, using the group code HLSART. If you wish to stay at a different hotel, be sure to ask about the Harvard-negotiated rates when booking. Please see the Harvard Travel website for more information.

Q: Will there be food and drink available?
A: On Friday night there will be complimentary food, wine, and beer available (two drink tickets per person followed by a cash bar). On Saturday there will be a lunch cookout, complimentary snacks, and soft drinks with additional food for purchase from the Hark Café or food trucks.

Q: How can I submit my artwork, film, or performance for the festival?
A: The deadline for submissions has passed. A curation committee is currently selecting the works/performances that will be placed on display and applicants will be notified soon.

Q: May alumni submit their work?
A: The September Arts Festival is a student/staff-focused event. We recognize the many talents of our HLS community, and have have invited specific alumni to participate in the Art Exhibit, Book Festival, Film Festival and on Center Stage.

Q: Will there be parking available?
A: Yes. Complimentary parking is available at the Everett Street Garage, located at 10 Everett St., Cambridge, MA 02138, and the Oxford Street Garage, located at 52 Oxford St., Cambridge, MA 02138.

Q: If I cannot attend the festival, will it be live streamed?
A: Events will not be live streamed, but videos of Center Stage and individual sessions will be available on this site a week after the event.
