Join us for an exciting hackathon day with focused dialogue and problem-solving on three emerging and complex legal issues. The individual hackathons will be facilitated by a diverse group of legal experts, lawyers in the field, law students, and vested community members. The all-day event will include group opening and closing sessions, as well as three concurrent hackathons with separate sessions. After a day of highly interactive small group discussions with participants from a wide range of backgrounds, we hope to emerge from the event with new and innovative approaches for how to address these legal questions on an ongoing basis. Space is limited to 45 participants per hackathon.

Hackathon 1: Do Ask, Do Tell, Do Justice: Pursuing Justice for LGBTQ Military Veterans

Hackathon 2: Speech, Technology, and Online Discourse: The Role of Internet Intermediaries in Mediating Harmful Speech

Hackathon 3: Strategies for Sanctuary Spaces in the Age of Deportations, Defunding, and Donald Trump

We invite HLS alumni to participate in the Ideas in Action Hackathon and to bring their own expertise, perspectives, and experience to bear as we look at these timely legal issues anew. We welcome the participation of both alumni with specific subject matter expertise and alumni with a general interest in the topic area. Each participant is asked to choose one of the three highly interactive hackathons to participate in throughout the day. The individual hackathons may provide some suggested background reading in advance.
